Sunset Boulevard
(27 ottobre) Il cinema – soprattutto quello Hollywood - affects the costume, or is the costume that affects the cinema? Or, the process is circular, meaning that the two influence each other?
Waiting for an answer, I realized that both the film and the costume really proceed in waves, though often an even realize it. For example, the beginning and then until the late thirties triumphant film focusing on the characters' ends, "" sensitive "is feminine (to mention a few, Lillian Gish in ancient times, most recently Ingrid Bergman) and male (type the first Richard Barthelmess, Paul Henreid and then the great Leslie Howard, who all believed the English way, but it was Polish), and their personal wayside. Often, the same securities made in starting the idea ("Broken Flowers").
Now, flowers are always broken in reality, but also in film and in fiction and in costume, who cares anymore? Those who talk more than men and women "sensitive"? If anything, involve the characters hard. Even certain words are coming out from use. As is the case in Italy, "is very fine," he said once to say a fine person. Now the "end" no longer say, or just for irony, or just to the concierge level.
After the mania they arrived in the last thirties and early forties, another also much greater strength, a tsunami wave more than just: that of psychiatric afflictions. In all versions, from "Psycho" or actual psychosis (Hitchcock made us, on no fewer than four films) to the multiple personality, the demented villains, to paranoia, with total amnesia romantic fallout, and then to psychoanalysis in all its variations, Freud, Jung, Adler.
people well, especially in America, had, one in two, the psychoanalyst, the children start school with the psychiatrist. Then, suddenly, the craze has gone completely and is never, or at least not yet, come back. Si era a quell’epoca all’apice dello tsunami.
E adesso? In mezzo a quale ondata siamo?
Io parlo della musica seria, whose audience, across America, has fallen at least 80 per cent compared to times that were too thin financially much more, like the early postwar decades. The sale of the albums of classical music has plummeted to just over zero. In Manhattan there were even a few years ago, two radio stations broadcasting classical music 24 hours 24. A decade ago, the stations have become one. Then that was saved from bankruptcy by selling to third parties, but these have reduced to a flicker that is as personal as time and radius of diffusion. Now praying for help from the public for not having to close, too.

This Side (1)
7:52 AM (23 October) few days ago, Woody Allen's packed with wonderful economy his whole world view in these words: "What you see is what you get," that is what you see is all there is. He further said that those who believe that there is something else, such as what is offered by religions, they are lucky because usually find some comfort in this, but he is not one of them.
I asked him to elaborate a bit 'these concepts, but he did not want to do it. So I will try to do it, for the simple reason that its main clause consenting to find me one hundred percent. But I do not exactly agree on the idea that religions necessarily represent a comfort, and leave this discrepancy to add a few words.
First, there is such a quantity of things to see around us, I do not understand why we should go hence to seek the other. But if I want more, just look up to heaven and think of the most rudimentary elements of astronomy to be at the same time, overwhelmed by a sense of wonder and amazement. Then there's a lot of stuff I do not see, but we know it exists, and this gives us a vast field on which to engage profitably thought.
It 'true that the things we see, or suppose that we are, we do not understand in fondo assolutamente nulla.
Le Eastern religions offer us finally to free existence after a large number of incarnations, but the comfort next is unclear. The Jewish religion, at least, has the good sense not to ensure no heaven.
On the other hand, try it yourself to evoke otherworldly consolations of the best, and you will find hard to even imagine, unless they are not the same ones that we experience in life, what would be a contradiction in terms. But if you find them, please let me know.
I suspect, however, that religion has a hand inherently negative. A resort to force it, force it to divert to that is a part of our thoughts, we decrease the amount of attention that we should turn instead to the things around us, whether we understand them, that is not, and I think if the place of religious practices in deliberate efforts to organize themselves, individual or collective appreciation of life, this would coll 'have a soothing effect no less mystical abstractions.
One consequence of the idea "what you see is what you get" is, on the other hand, it puts the emphasis on the fact that both of us, that everything around us, we are part of nature. This in turn can lead to some interesting assumptions about our role in the world, and the difference between living and what we non vive.

Guys That Masterbate In Public'
Bagatelle for a massacre
I wonder why?
Observe, for example Tom Brokaw, special correspondent of the newspaper of the NBC television, the appearance in the disputed election of populist Party of Tea is the subject of enormous discussion and feedback, instead of this endless stream of death and destruction does not feel almost speak, nor amongst voters, nor among non-voters, nor among the employed, unemployed or between, or among investors, or among consumers, in fact almost anywhere. "It 's possible that nobody notices that something is missing from the landscape? ... And why is it that these wars, and their human and economic consequences, are not in the foreground, al centro, di questa campagna elettorale?” Si chiede Brokaw.
.
The dead? They are, in the vast majority of other people's children. And when he went to enlist knew that they were paid or to kill or be killed.
But there is another reason for the silence that is mentioned even less, even though the courageous President Obama, even in the newspapers, at least those of America and other Western nations. It is linked to the original cause of this epopee of murder, and is a cause that, too, was put into evidence by the most monstrous colossal disaster ever suffered by a nation "advanced" as the United States. You want a clue to solve this riddle permanent? He tried at the time of the disaster to provide for the American public a gentleman billionaire who just recently reappeared on the scene after some of his investments in the stock market in New York. This is the Prince Walid bin Tal, the ruling family in Saudi Arabia, a figure much criticism in his country because of its pronounced pro-Americanism, and much criticized America for its pronounced pro-Islamism (This dual qualification would seem to itself indicative of some impartiality).
Prince Walid, the collapse of two skyscrapers of the World Trade Center, sent to Rudolph Giuliani, mayor of the city he lives in the largest aggregate of the Jewish world, greater even than that of any city in Israel, so large and dominant that a Swedish newspaper once dubbed the Jew York, a check for $ 10 million to be used for assistance to the families of thousands of victims. Together there was a note that said: "The United States should, however, also re-examine their policy prescriptions in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced position towards the Palestinian cause." Mayor Giuliani said in receiving this communication is supremely outraged by this even verbal intrusion in American foreign policy, and to bury everything under the more indignant oblivion also returned to the sender's gift of ten million. Used to you this episode nine years ago as a clue to the solution of that riddle?

Laugh, Pain Behind Both Ears
A look warily to the Middle East The New
(October 16) In an attempt to take stock of the situation in the Middle East, the writer has hit some reasons for aggravation of ungovernability noticeable in Israeli society for a long time, aggravation that comes today to cast doubt on even major external manifestations of what State. An example is the speech, and aggressive sconnnesso, presented at the annual UN General Assembly re-opened by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to indicate in broad terms, as is customary, the policy guidelines of his nation, and that is been rejected officially, as devoid of any national political representation of Israelis, just hours away from the prime minister of that government, Benjamin Netanyahu. A similar case of schizoid policy had never been registered at the UN.
Netanyahu, who was simultaneously engaged in one of the most critical diplomatic action that Israel has never ceased to play in cementing its instances of survival, he has also exhibited the effects of a congenital dysfunction of his government.
It was the umpteenth round of intermittency, almost twenty years of "peace process" with more or less authorized representatives of the Arab population, for a two-state arrangement of the Palestinian territory, but this time a round seconded with all its political potential can also by the American administration of President Obama. The two-state solution has only recently been accepted in principle by Mr. Netanyahu and his coalition government, which, however, are part of the ultra-religious factions and the movement of Russian-Jewish Lieberman.
simply to continue the dialogue, Netanyahu made his interlocutor
the strange request for a preliminary ruling and formally recognize the state of Israel in the nature of "Jewish state". Request difficult to understand, but who knows the meaning and the importance of ad essa viene annessa dalla componente estremistica su cui si regge il governo Netanyahu.
Si tratta di uno del capisaldi del movimento per uno stato autoritario d’ispirazione post-sovietica ‘Yisraeli Beiteinu’ (‘Israele is our home ') by Lieberman, who, in alliance with the official ultra-religious minority groups and "de facto" with the group and potentially anarchic uprising of the 300,000 settlers illegally occupying the area of \u200b\u200bPalestine, Transjordan, is one of the pillars of the Netanyahu government .
Then the Israeli Ambassador in Washington has sought to clarify, in a newspaper article, the nature of this request to the Palestinian people, justifying it as a carrot that the neo-moderate his government could not do without Lieberman's extremist component to extend in order to advance in the negotiations.
On the one hand there is a Jewish people basically divided into two parts, a moderate and presumably motivated by intentions of peaceful coexistence with the Arabs, the other dominant, determined to impose at all costs a theocratic rule throughout Bible which preceded the second destruction of the Temple. Faced with these two sections there is a Palestinian people equally divided in two: the minority group that so far has favored negotiations with the Jews, on the banks of the Jordan illegally represented by a man who illegally carries the title of president, the other , based in Gaza, legitimately represented and controlled by a resistance movement that until now has never maximalist want to give up, at least in principle, the objective of expelling the Jews totally.
truncated circles around these companies at this time the individual who stood at the head of the Jihad movement in defense of Islam, under the anti-Islamic crusade waged by the West dating back as clearly as the Palestinian conflict. It 's the president of Iran Ahmadinegiad. And 'the man who put the unknown into the equation Atomic conservation with Israel and Pakistan. In his own name, and explicit representation of the Arab nation, Syria, with which his country has an agreement of action, is visiting Ahmadinegiad Lebanon officially in the hot zone of the border with Israel. In Lebanon itself, the movement Hezbollah, funded and armed by Iran and Syria, has been busily reorganizing and rearming after the confrontation with Israel in 2006. There is now, according to U.S. information, of 40,000 missiles in place of the 14,000 held four years ago.
It 's very hard to imagine what this foreshadows situation within the immense arc of instability extending from Pakistan to Somalia and in view of the wars that America and the West already committed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan . But at least to this writer, it does not inspire thoughts are particularly pleased.

York Times and the anti-Islam crusade
(October 10) A couple of days ago a well-known New York columnist, Bob Herbert, was added to a growing chorus of people who are realizing the multifaceted decline of American society, and, inspired by the fact that state authorities have given up to build a rail tunnel under the Hudson River, which is also urgently needed, he wrote: "We're good to go to war in Iraq and nell'Afganistan and throwing threats against Iran ... but we are unable to do even engineering work that once would have been almost routine ... America, which has so often astonished the world with the vision and the grandeur of its businesses ... is losing its capacity and increasingly slipping down ... It is not only that ... It 'that America is losing the soul ... There was a point, there were reasons, there have been times , that this upheaval has begun ... "Unless
mention the ongoing wars, the journalist does not dare to point out none of these reasons and mysterious moments, and yet, at least to understand what it is, it is enough to mention the newspaper on he writes, the powerful New York Times, still considered the most efficient and most influential newspaper in the world.
Owned by Israel, but In the past, always very careful not to derive from this the tone of his reports, the newspaper, in addition to losing share rapidly in quality in recent years, is becoming more clearly where the fielding side pushing forces on Judaism more fanatical and fundamentalist, in the tragic conflict that sees the United States, and behind them the rest of the West, increasingly tethered in a senseless struggle against the Islamic world, and this solely for the benefit of Israeli expansionism in Palestine. Sometimes - as happened today - to the extent that they occasionally, and it would seem, almost without knowing it, bearer of these forces in their most repulsive.
Today is the turn of an article on two full pages - a length unprecedented, as far as I know, for this newspaper, at least half a century in this part - accompanied by a dozen color photographs and conspicuously marked in first page, which tells the story of a new member of the movement and racist anti-Obama so-called "tea party" (see my article "proto-fascist assault on America," of 15:09:10). This is a repellent donnaccola, at least for my taste, Pamela Geller, editor of a blog on the internet called "Atlas Shrugs" (the title of a famous book by Ayn Rand, the philosopher anarchist right thirties), who is spending a million blog readers. Geller
The specialty of the general framework of anti-Obama "tea party" is an unbridled attack against all and any aspect of the Arab world. The Geller calls itself "Islamophobic racism." Coming from one of the chic surroundings of the Jewish New Yorker, she proposes a war to the bitter end against the entire Muslim world and in particular that the Palestinian movement should be denied even the possession of its ancient holy places within the boundaries of Jerusalem, the same al-Aqsa Mosque, one of the most venerable monuments of Islam, on the hill where once stood the Temple of Jews should be destroyed.
not talking about the treatment that Geller would like reserving Arab imam in New York would build a mosque, "the reconciliation of faiths" in the vicinity of where the towers collapsed in the Word Trade Center, applauded a plan by President Obama unless Mayor Bloomberg of New York, although he himself Jewish, nor dell'obbrobrio expressed by this harpy against any measures adopted so far by Democratic President Obama, in your opinion, are in fact causing the decline acknowledges that she also act in the United States. "A decline - he said - not only chaired but actively promoted by Mr. Obama. "
not talking about all this nonsense, I say, why even talk about it in absurd detail, the New York Times, with the effect, of course, to give huge publicity to a wretched as well as the fomenting of hatred its disgusting ideas, publicity worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, even if measured simply using the charges of the newspaper. If we think about next month's elections in which all the anti-Obama, even the most mephitic, are joining forces to deny the president a majority in Congress, the value increases greatly.
Only three days before the appearance of the article was finished the job in New York against the Pakistani-American bomber Shahzad Faisal, who five months ago inefficient car with explosives parked in Times Square. After hearing his sentence to life imprisonment, and he requested and was granted to speak, the prisoner gave a short and sensible speech on Arab relations with the West and the absurd anti-Islamic crusade that proceeds from nine months. The judge (a woman) has listened with interest and equanimity, even thanking him at the end. The New York Times, in his report, gave to the statements of this young man who is preparing to spend a lifetime in jail, five lines.

Why Do Shoulders Hurt After Laparoscopy?
Even death penalty
(October 6) The short article "The death penalty in Italy" (25.09.10) has provided me with many protests, to which I would like to respond briefly. However, excepting those of a theological ("the sanctity of life") than flat, by definition, an otherworldly logic, I do not susceptible to debate land.
All the objections that I have been made are based on one of two arguments or both. The first is an alleged lack of preventive and deterrent of the death penalty criminal activity. It 's a failure that has never been possible to demonstrate, however, even if proven, would still be better than a force that no sufficient force. The argument is, on the other hand, the main two.
The other is the severity of a sentence only in cases where the result of a miscarriage of justice, is, unlike all others, irreparable.
is an important topic, it is not, however, an argument against the death penalty. E 'argument against miscarriages of justice when leading to the death penalty, and therefore it must be done, and actually takes place, in these terms, and not in terms of un'inaccettabilità ruling of death sentence.
First you have to discard as a "non sequitur" the idea that the number of wrongful death sentences be derived from relatively alto dei casi in cui l’ingiustizia viene scoperta per i condannati in attesa di esecuzione, e che sono i casi generalmente riportati dai giornali.
It is however not a reason to abolish the death penalty, as well as the impossibility of reducing to zero the incomparably higher number of innocent people swept up and killed by drunk drivers has never been a reason to abolish the traffic.

New Members Letter Church
An army more or less gay
(October 1) have long pressed the administration's flagship liberal Washington to abolish the last obstacle that still exists homosexual activity in the armed forces: the rule of "do not ask, do not tell" ( "Do not say anything, nothing will be asked"), which prohibits openly gay people to declare themselves. Currently, if they do, they can be expelled. If you can remain silent, with the assurance provided by the rule that no one will ask on which side they are as sexual life.
With two or three hands for war, assailed by concerns over several - suicide recruits, soldiers go crazy, drug rimbecilliti soldiers who commit atrocities and obscenities unprecedented percentage of dead and maimed that increases rather than decreases, renal too frequent rotations of staff between the front and service times at home, excessive use of "national guard" or reserve land which also leaves too much open the country to natural disasters or malicious - Defense Secretary Gates, the chief of staff and commander in chief Mullen Obama has not yet decided how to respond to the advocates of total tolerance in the military.
The President and his aides do not hesitate to morality, but out of fear that the arrival of open gays in the military to give another blow to its efficiency, perhaps the final blow. On the other hand, pro-gay is a considerable section of the electorate, and an administration that already strong fear of desertions in the November vote to renew the Congress can not take the slight hostility in a group so important.
The military element is faced with a phenomenon part similar to that which troubles the Catholic Church. The conventional explanation is that the church's priest pederasty will appetites develops the rash is barred because the bed, but I found this explanation to be invalid, because those desires are announced well before the age of marriage. What really attracts the gay seminarian is, first, a predominantly male environment, with presence and availability of large and small males. Secondly, it is a conciliatory atmosphere toward gay, gays, and that more increases, it becomes more conciliatory.
What attracts gay volunteer military environment is the first of these two characteristics. The second is less present, but when the gay element, being tacitly tolerated, became officially accepted and protected, and even just for that reason his numbers began to increase, the risks to the volunteer army would become difficult to predict. It 'possible that the injury has been underestimated in its ranks, and then will split into two. Or, conversely, the injury is completely dissolved over time, and then the increased flow of gays create an environment not dissimilar to give examples, from the dancers or ladies' hairdressers. Even his conduct before the enemy, then, would become unknown.
