First a couple of historical information about RAD and after I warmly invite you to see this beautiful album of portraits of women RAD ..:)

The Reich (abbreviated as RAD) was an auxiliary body to provide support to the German Wehrmacht during the World War II. The RAD was classified as
Wehrmachtsgefolge (Armed Forces Auxiliaries). Forces with such a status without being part of the Armed Forces themselves, provided a vital support that they are protected by the Geneva Convention. Some, including RAD were militarized.
The RAD was formed in July 1934 as official state business service. It was an amalgam of many labor organizations formed in Germany during the Twenties. Its members were required to serve for several civic construction projects, military and agricultural. Throughout its existence was its leader Konstantin Hierl
The RAD was divided into two main sections Reich Männer (RAD / M) for men and Reichsarbeitdienst der weiblichen Jugend (RAD / wj) for women.
The RAD was organized into 40 districts called Arbeitsgau ("divisional business districts"). At the head of each district was an officer with the staff and Wachkompanie (Guard Company). At the command of each district there were six to eight Arbeitsgruppen ("Working Group"), training the size of a battalion, about 1200-1800 people. These groups were further divided into six RAD-Abteilung-sized companies. Each member was given a shovel and a bicycle. The symbol of the RAD, an escutcheon in the shape of a spade blade pointing down, was present on the left shoulder of all uniforms or coats worn by the staff.
beginning of the war, during the campaigns of Western Norway, hundreds of units of RAD were involved in providing front-line troops, food and ammunition, repair damaged roads and build airstrips. Throughout the war, the RAD was involved in many projects, its coastal fortifications built units (many of his men worked sul Vallo Atlantico), piazzarono campi minati, fornirono guarnigioni per fortificazioni e aiutarono nella sorveglianza di punti vitali e di prigionieri.
